This Week in the Ottawa Valley

Celebrate Ottawa Valley Arts & Culture and History & Heritage

Celebrate Ottawa Valley Arts and Culture and History and Heritage
(Pembroke, ON) – October 2nd & 3rd is the final weekend of the Rural Ramble with sites showcasing Ottawa Valley Arts & Culture and sites highlighting Ottawa Valley History & Heritage.

This weekend provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Ottawa Valley’s vibrant arts communities, as well as a chance to reflect on our rich history and diverse heritage. During the Arts & Culture and History & Heritage weekend, Rural Ramblers can:

  • Take part in the celebrated Madawaska Valley Studio Tour and visit the private studios of Ottawa Valley artists
  • Help build a giant paper-maché turtle and vote in the recycled art competition at the South of 60 Arts Centre
  • Take in the work of the Renfrew Art Guild during the 10th Calabogie Artfest
  • Browse one of the many art galleries in the Ottawa Valley, including Stone Meadows Kitchen Shop & Gallery in Renfrew, the Come See Gallery in Cobden, and the gallery hosted by the Valley Artisans’ Co-op in Deep River
  • Celebrate Kashubian-Canadian culture with the Wilno Heritage Society
  •  Let the Valley Arts Council take you “behind the scenes” of a theatre at Festival Hall
  •  Watch history come to life with the interactive exhibits and historical re-enactors at the Arnprior Museum
  • Paint a pictograph or carve soap stone as you learn about Algonquin First Nations’ history and heritage at The Algonquin Way Cultural Centre
  • Go trailblazing and horseback riding at Frontier Trails
  • Discover and explore the heritage and history of the Coulonge waterfalls at Chutes Coulonge Park
  • Visit Valley Heritage Radio and see a radio station in full operation (kids can speak “on air” with a DJ!)
This year’s event is free to the public which means there are no bracelets to buy, however admission fees may apply for certain activities (refer to the official event guide for further details). Ramblers can pick up a copy of the official Rural Ramble event guide at various retail outlets located throughout Renfrew County or download a copy via the OVTA’s website at www.ottawavalley.travel.
