Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre Takes Environment to Heart with Green Initiative

(Pembroke, Ontario) - The Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centreis pleased to announce that it has achieved a 5 Green Key rating through the Green Key Eco-Rating Program.

A 5 Green Key rating demonstrates that the Best Western in Pembroke exemplifies the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility throughout all areas of operations. The hotel employs cutting edge technologies, policies, and programs that set the international standard for sustainable hotel operations.

The basic advantage that the Hotel facility has lies with the total heat pump circulation system installed when the Hotel was built. This system is designed to capture all excessive heat throughout the complex, winter or summer, and reuse this energy to heat other areas in the building requiring heat, and to preheat the incoming city water for the domestic hot water. This excessive heat is generated from passive solar heating, air conditioning, and body heat from the fitness centre and conference levels. More recently, management has installed many other forms of energy saving devices such as low flow shower heads, ultra low flow dual flush toilets, energy sensors, compact fluorescent lighting, etc. Since opening, it has been company policy to always sort and recycle wastes; right from guest rooms blue baskets to the disposal bins.

Barry Martin, President, states “ it has always been very high in our management priorities to establish a Green Environment in our Hotel – to not only be a community leader, but to meet today’s guest expectations, and to lower operating costs significantly. According to industry figures, our Hotel is now one of the most energy efficient hotel operations in Ontario.” He further adds that  “I am very proud of our staff that work very hard in making our Green program do so well.”
