The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA) is excited to announce the following winter workshop opportunities for local tourism businesses.

  3. Package Development (Packaging Workshop 3 of 3)
  4. Building a Culture of Service Excellence
  5. OHTO - Motorcycle Market Readiness Workshop
  6. OHTO - EQ Workshops
These workshops have been developed in order to help tourism operators enhance their product offerings and customer experience, and increase business. Business owners, operators & managers and staff from all sectors - accommodations, attractions & museums, restaurant and retail, outfitters and transportation - are encouraged to attend and participate to network and establish profitable partnerships to help grow tourism in the Ottawa Valley.
 
 
Introduction to Packaging (Packaging Workshop 1 of 3)
 
The OVTA, in partnership with the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) and the Town of Petawawa, is pleased to offer An Introduction to Packaging Workshop. This is the first workshop of a series of three which will help you create, develop and market distinctive packages to attract tourists to your business.

This introductory half-day workshop will provide participants with research and insights into the value of developing packages, the basics on how to develop a package, and an opportunity to network with other tourism operators to identify potential packaging partners. This workshop will inspire you to embark on a process to work with partners to develop distinctive packages that will bring you more business.

Topics will include:
  • What is a package and how does packaging work?
  • What are the advantages of packaging and how can it help my business?
  • How do I get started? What are the basic steps in developing a package? 
  • How do I form partnerships?
  • Overview of the OHTO’s online packaging program & listing options.

Developing Experiences (Packaging Workshop 2 of 3)

The OVTA, in partnership with the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) and the Town of Petawawa, is pleased to offer the Enrich your Tourism Product by Developing Experiences Workshop.

This half-day workshop will cover the importance of diversifying and enhancing your tourism product with unique and authentic experiences, as well as help you to understand why making this shift can grow your business.  

Learn the foundations of experiential travel, including the components required for the development of locally-themed and customer-centric experiences. You will have an opportunity to network with potential partners and practice developing a unique, experiential package.  
The second in a series of three packaging workshops being offered this winter, this workshop will build on the Growing your Tourism Business: Intro to Packaging (1 of 3) workshop held on the morning of February 26.  Participants who attended the introductory workshop are encouraged to attend this one and bring along other tourism operators who are interested in creating thematic and experiential packages.  Operators who did not attend the morning session are also welcome to register for the afternoon workshop.
Topics will include:
  • What is experiential travel and does it differ from what I currently offer?
  • What are the advantages of experiential development and how can it help my business grow?
  • What are visitors looking for in experiences?
  • What are the unique experiences available locally and regionally (or ones that could be developed) that could be included in a package?

Package Development (Packaging Workshop 3 of 3)

The OVTA, in partnership with the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO), is pleased to offer a practical and engaging Packaging Development Workshop.

In this full-day, interactive workshop, participants will work together to begin developing desirable and market ready packages. 
 
Workshop Includes:
  • Definition of package components and step-by-step instructions of how to create packages.
  • Building a detailed itinerary from the eyes of a visitor and from the eyes of each tourism operation.
  • Consideration of operational details, pricing for profitability, marketing, and promotion.
  • How to build in operational contingencies.
  • Hands-on working session with package partners. Partners will leave the session with a package in hand ready to promote in the marketplace.
  • Overview of the OHTO’s online packaging program and listing options, as well as other marketing opportunities.
Who should attend?
Tourism stakeholders who:
  • Attended the February 26, 2013 workshops.
  • Have a solid knowledge of packaging and experiential travel.
  • Provide accommodation, food services, attractions, experiences, and events.
Registration Details:
This workshop will have participants working together to build packages. 
 
Participants are encouraged to 
 
1.     Attend the workshop as a group ready to work together (group members must register individually) OR
2.     Upon registration, list potential partners you would like to work with but have not yet connected to.

Building a Culture of Service Excellence

Facilitated by Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC), and presented by the OVTA, in partnership with the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) and the Township of Bonnechere Valley, this workshop will provide owners, managers and supervisors with best practice strategies and tools to create, implement and sustain a culture of service excellence at their organization. 
Workshop includes:
  • Introduction to "A Culture of Service Excellence"
  • Creating a Service Vision
  • Know Your Customer
  • Building the Customer Experience
  • Employee Engagement - The Key to Success
  • Making it Stick - Sustaining a Culture of Service Excellence
  • Action Plan and Resources

  • Managers
Workshop runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Check in and refreshments at 8:30 am. Complimentary lunch is included.

OHTO - Motorcycle Market Readiness Workshop
The OHTO, in partnership with the OVTA, regional tourism partners and BC Hughes Tourism Consultants, invites you to attend a Motorcycle Market Readiness workshop.

Recognizing that the motorcycle industry is a fast growing and exciting tourism opportunity with potential for bringing visitors to Ontario’s Highlands, the OHTO is committed to further developing this tourism product within the region.

The OVTA has also recognized the potential of this growing market in our region and have been working to develop this product for the past number of years. We encourage all OVTA members who are interested in taking the next step to welcoming bikers to attend one of the upcoming Motorcycle Market Readiness workshops in Haliburton, Kaladar or Pembroke. You will learn:
  • The significance of OHTO as a motorcycle touring region.
  • Who the new bikers are.
  • What it takes to cater to a motorcycle touring enthusiast.
  • How to make you business bike friendly.
  • The market potential and benefits of being involved. (i.e. How many riders are we talking about?)

OHTO - EQ Workshops

The OHTO is pleased to bring all three of the Canadian Tourism Commission's (CTC)  Signature Experiences Collection® (SEC) workshops to Ontario's Highlands. These workshops are designed to assist you with learning more about the Explorer Quotient® (EQ), the CTC’s innovative marketing segmentation tool that can help you:
  • Identify your best customers
  • Understand how to align your tourism product with the social and travel values of your best customers and why it's so important do so
  • Understand what's required to make the shift from selling a tourism “product” to selling a tourism “experience”
  • Increase the results of your marketing efforts through customer-centric marketing
