Transform an Enclyclopedia into an Altered Book

Description:
 In this workshop, each participant will learn how to transform an antique encylopedia from 1898 into  a  work of altered art.  Altered art is the practice of "altering" an everyday ordinary object to become  an artistic piece.  Any object can be the  subject of altered art, but this workshop will focus on  creating an altered book.  Participants will learn techniques including: collage, assemblage,  transfers, textures,attaching and containing.  The use of products and various techniques will be  demonstrated.  

As well as teaching, Donna Desmond has studies under a variety of master craftspeople and shows her work in Central New York and at her studio in Madawaska, ON. 

To bring: any items that you wish to incorporate into your altered book such as: photos, beads, ribbon,dried flowers, magazine cuttings, fabric, jewellery, etc. - anything goes!
